KOI-CLX

HEARD OR EXPERIENCED CHLORINE POISONING?

Now you can prevent that while saving money. Koi-CLX provides unlimited flow, reliable and much safer way to eliminate chloramine or chlorine in tap water, at a fraction of the cost of dechlorination/dechloramination chemical alternatives.

CHLORINE AND CHLORAMINE:

They disinfect tap water, killing waterborne harmful bacteria, viruses, algae, and fungi. Unfortunately, they are harmful to fish health and damage koi skin color. Chlorine and chloramine should be removed before adding tap water to the pond.

The most popular method is to mix de-chlorinated chemicals (such as formaldehyde sodium bisulfite, aka sodium methanesulfonate) into the pond. There are a few inconveniences:

  • Chemicals must always be added each time doing a water change.

  • The additive quantity has to match or surpass the fresh tap water.

  • Overfilling the pond by mistake will most likely kill your prized koi!

  • Even if doing everything right, you still subject your koi to all these chemicals

WHY YOU SHOULD NOT TRICKLE BACK UNFILTERED TAP WATER:

Another practice is trickling a small amount of tap water into the pond, thinking that chlorine and chloramine will be evaporated or diluted enough to cause no harm to koi.

Chlorine in small amount can't kill your koi, but they still attack their gills because that's what chlorine is meant to do! While koi escape imminent death, they are far from harmless and healthy which may show up in their skin condition. Imagine nicotine smoke from cigarettes, it will definitely kill you if the room is full of nicotine and no oxygen to breath. At low level, you smoke or secondary inhalation, however, it can

KOI-CLX FILTERS:

Koi-CLX removes chlorine and chloramine from tap water by physical absorption method before the water is introduced to the pond. It is designed for “install and forget”. With the full size model (a bit less than $1,000), you have an average filtration capability of 600,000 gallons of tap water at 2ppm chloramine, or 1.2 million gallons at 4ppm chlorine (more than 10 years of operation for most ponds). At less than $500, the junior model filters about 150,000 gallons of tap water at 2ppm chloramine, or 300,000 gallons at 4ppm chlorine - 4 years of operation for a 6,000 gallons pond with 10% water change per week.

KOI-CLX TECHNOLOGY FAQ

How is the chloramine eliminated?

Koi-CLX employs the latest carbon filtration technology suitable for medical applications and human consumption. Chloramine is absorbed inside the carbon matrix and will remain locked until the media reaches its capacity. Koi-CLX uses Carbon XtraFill patent pending technology which has an extremely high holding capacity to last for years.

How long does the filter last?

The full size filter lasts 10 years for most urban koi ponds. To find out its lifetime for your pond, multiple the size of your pond in thousands of gallons to your desired percentage for weekly water change then divide 1150 by that number. For example, the life of a Koi-CLX for a 10,000 gallons pond, 10% water change weekly is 1150 / (10 x 10) = 11.5 years. The junior model is 1/4 of that life.

How do I know when to replace? Each filter comes with a water meter ( junior model incurs additional cost) to remind you when to change out. We recommend a replacement after 10 years of service to err on the safe side for your koi.
